I stumbled upon a meme that can only be understood by those who took electrical engineering classes. It took a while for me to get it since I only took one class. When I shared the meme to a friend who graduated with an electrical engineering degree, she recalled how she enjoyed the challenges her time in engineering school given to her. I looked back at my college experience and I remember the good times. But I also remember how lazy I was.

I was never the achiever. I could have been one if I wasn’t too lazy. I could have been a student leader and immersed myself in plenty of extracurricular activities. However, I often found myself lacking of sleep therefore, I spent a lot of time making up for that. It cost me a lot of money and time for prioritizing what was comfortable for me than prioritizing my studies.

Once I took a 7am schedule for an electrical engineering class. It had so many students in one class. With so many demands, the teacher had to collect the ids of more than 50 students so that he can randomly pick those who can be added in what was already a large class of 100. Luckily, I was one of them. I took that opportunity for granted though. Eventually, I started missing classes every other week. Until I just stopped going in. All because I was too sleepy for a 7am class and the cold weather wanted me to stay in bed.

Obviously, I flunked that class. I didn’t attend classes. I was always lazy to attend a four-hour class with no friends in it. I took it again the following semester and I somehow made things right. I graduated already but I still regret those moments. That’s why I try my best to make it up in my work. I knew that if I remain lazy, I really wouldn’t go far in my journey as an engineer. I want to prove that I can still change the bad habit. I want to prove that those moments won’t define what I will be in the future.

So if you’re reading this and feel like you’re a lazy bum like I was, I encourage you to make a move. Whatever it it you need to do, start now. Don’t just sit there and daydream and overthink your like away. Start moving, study, join groups and be that person you’ve always wanted to be. Start passing exams, start impressing professors, send out resumes. Just don’t ever think that you’re a lazy bum who’ll never be able to achieve anything in life. If you do, then you already lost the fight.

So stop being lazy and start moving!
