It is 2016 and we are all crazy about driverless cars – but not as crazy as Dubai is.

The city-state in the UAE recently revealed through their ruler an aim of converting 25% of all trips on its public streets to autonomous vehicles by 2030. Dubai has made a deal with EasyMile, a French company to allow tests of the 10-passenger vehicle called EZ10 in their local roadways.

More than that is their promotional video of an autonomous concept car that appears to be a Tesla Model S rip-off to hype up residents of the driverless car technology concept.

Recent announcement by Elon Musk also confirms the viability of autonomous cars in Dubai is far greater than in North America or Europe.

This makes Dubai a better place for driverless cars than America because the concept is a lot more convenient there: the weather, only heat and fog, will almost never be an issue; the traffic situation is favorable to autonomous cars; and the streets are relatively well-paved and marked. Whereas in America, the seasons will make it difficult for the driverless cars to navigate, and ultimately the unstable road conditions will hamper movement of such cars.

If there’s any place in the world that driverless cars can find the perfect home, it will be Dubai. In America, they are most likely to suffer.
