We surveyed 43 engineers who are currently working on oil and gas, utilities, MEP, mining and construction. These are the key salient points to consider if you are buying a flashlight for your work operations.

Durability – Quality must be reliable and robust

Indicators – It gives you head up if the battery is low

Body type – Grips very well to your hand and does not slip. Clip on is a major plus.

Brightness – LED headlamp puts out roughly 50 to 100 lumens for typical flashlight. But for mining and construction applications, it can go as high as 2,000 lumens.

Price – Doesn’t cost you your arms and legs. The right price for the right features.

Who are the respondents of this survey? The key demographics are mechanical, electrical, civil engineers with deep backgrounds on sight operations, night duty shifts and enclosed dark environments.  They are based in Philippines, UAE, Qatar, South Africa, Australia and USA.

The qualitative results of the survey reveals that… 100% of the respondents has at least 2 flashlights at work. 80% of the respondents has at least 2 flashlights at home while the remaining 20% owns 3 or more flashlights at their residence. 93% owns different types of flashlights. 68% purchase flashlights every year. 96% only purchase a well known brand.
