When you’re an engineering leader in construction, mechanical, electrical, chemical or any engineering field, you are surrounded with people who will be working with you for the next few months or years of your life.

As a leader, you will have to lead these people (especially the younger ones) and teach them leadership as you all go along the way. This is part of the cycle in anyone’s career. You start out young and naive, engineering leaders in the workplace become your mentors and the next thing you know, you’re the next one to lead the company.

While some are selfish to share their wisdom on leadership and success, a real leader trains other people to become leaders too. For every engineering company, it is important that leaders create other leaders in the process as well.

This is something we can learn from the co-founder of Elite Daily, Gerard Adams, who sold the online news platform to The Daily Mail for $50 million.

His advice on how to start developing the minds of future engineering leaders:



“It starts with connection. A lot of entrepreneurs come in here and they immediately want to pitch me their idea, but I think the best thing to do is to really get to know the person. What have you done? What have you been through? I want to know about that. And then where you’re going – what’s your why? What drives you? Because that’s really important to your idea and how you’re going to execute it.”
